Cambridge Muslim College Research engages a broad array of diverse questions and themes.

These are organised into three interdisciplinary Research Areas, captured under the rubric of God, Self, and Society.

God | Signs of the Divine: Reason and Revelation

In the Research Area of God, questions of theology and philosophy are explored, both within the Islamic tradition, as well as comparative theology, scriptural studies, and philosophy. This area of research also encompasses the study of revelatory sources – Quranic studies and Hadith studies – as well as the methods and tools of interpretation studied in legal theory (uṣūl al-fiqh) and the ancillary rational science.

Self | Human Excellence: Learning, Development and Flourishing

In the Area of Self, the various dimensions of human development are explored. This encompasses education, Sufism and Islamic spirituality, Islamic psychology, and leadership.

Society | Living in Community: Past, Present, and Future

In the Research Area of Society, CMC research explores topics related to living in community within the social sciences and humanities, including Islamic law and practical ethics; finance and economics; history, politics and the state; and gender and sexuality. Other topics of research related to social coexistence include interfaith studies, technology and the environment, and architecture and the Arts.
